Nancy Wilson is a Grammy Award winning jazz singer. She was born 20th February 1937 in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson who worked at the ironworks as well as Lillian Ryan, a former domestic worker. Nancy is the youngest among six children. Nancy loved listening to records from her father as well as his passion for music. When she was four, she knew she would like to become an artist. She began to develop her talent by singing in church choirs. When she was 15, she won the talent show on T.V. and began appearing on the Skyline Melodies Tv Show while still in High School. The same year when she was working, she began performing in nightclubs. Nancy was just 17 when she graduated highschool. After attending Ohio Central State College - now Central State University - for one semester, Nancy quit to become an experienced performer. Nancy began her recording career with Dot Records in 1956, when she was part of the band. Cannonball Adderley encouraged her to move in New York to further her career, and she moved to The Big Town to begin her career in the year 1959. After just a few days the manager of Adderley was impressed by her voice and hired her. The contract was signed with Capitol Records in the year 1960. In 1960, she made her debut with. Guess Who I Stopped Today. Her records were successful and Capitol issued 5 Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Under the direction of Cannonball Adderley, Wilson began concentrating on R&B and then shifted her focus towards torch and jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 was instrumental to bring her to the forefront as well as her hit Tell Me the Truth was recorded in 1963. The performance helped her land a gig in the New York Coconut Grove in 1963. It was the most crowded in America's nightclub.
