The Jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born February 20, 1937, in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio. Her parents were ironworker Olden Wilson and the former Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy was the eldest of six kids. Nancy was heavily influenced in her early years by the music her dad was a fan of and played in the home. When she was just four an age, she realized that she was going to be a star in the singing world. She developed her talent by her involvement in the choir at church. The show was on television in her 15th year and then began appearing regularly on the Tv show Skyline Melodies while still in high school. It was at that time that she began to work in nightclubs at the similar age. Nancy at the age of 17, had graduated high school, and then matriculated at Ohio Central State College (now Central State University) for an entire year prior to deciding to pursue a career as a musician. The first album she recorded was in 1956 by the Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. The band performed with her throughout 1956 and 1957. Nancy started recording with Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball adderley advised her to move for a trip to New York in order to increase her fame. She visited The Big Town, New York in 1959. Adderley's Agent heard her at The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she signed. Within a month after her arrival at New York City. He signed a contract the label Capitol records in 1960, and she debuted the following year, with a single. Guess Who? Capitol Records issued five Nancy Wilson albums over a two-year period. Adderley helped her move away from R&B and to focus on the torch and jazz genres. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley and their 1962 collaboration made her a star. The singer had her breakout hit Tell Me the Truth by 1963. This performance helped her land a gig in the New York Coconut Grove in 1963. It was the most crowded in America's nightclub.
