Winona Ryder Professionally Winona Ryder was born on Winona Minnesota. It was parents for the town in which she was born. His father Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder is a Jew. Ryder believes that her father had an ethnically Jewish heritage. She has two younger half-siblings, Jubal and Sunyata. The time Ryder was just seven, her family relocated into Mendocino County California. There was no electricity. Television books would be the sole way to spend the time and she was a voracious reader. Ryder began taking acting lessons at the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983, when she was 13 years old. After she reached the age of 15 Ryder was offered a part in Lucas which was her debut major film. Ryder suffered from bullying at her high school. The hope was that her acting career would improve her life. It didn't take place. The actress continued to chase her ambitions. Her breakthrough was in 1988 when she appeared in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder performed in a number of roles that were successful for various films. In 1993 Ryder was twice nominated at the Academy Awards. One of the nominations was for her part as a character in The Age of Innocence.
